Disclaimer: This is the heroic version of the fight and I will only be going into changes and strategy used. For the full list of abilities and normal mode guide please check out this link.
Introduction: Pissed off he got one shot by just about any raid that went against him, Morchok got an idea while chewing his Doublemint gum…
Difficulty (Heroic): 1.5/5: This is the entry level into hard modes and should not provide much trouble. If you can easily clear 8/8 on normal in 2-4 hours, your group should have very little trouble on this encounter.
Comp and Stats:
Tanks: 2
Healers: 2 or 4 (4 recommended)
DPS: 4 or 6
Morchok+Kohcrom: 42M (Shared health pool)
Enrage: 6 minutes
Heroic Changes:
- At 90% Morchok will split into two, unique mobs: Morchok and Kohcrom.
- Each one has the same abilities on Normal mode.
- Kohcrom will mimic Morchok’s abilities 5 seconds after Morchok performs one.
- For example, Morchok will always perform Stomp first, and Kohcrom will Stomp 5 seconds after.
- Crush Armor will no longer apply to the tanks. This means one tank per mob is needed.
- Both Morchok and Kohcrom technically have separate health pools, but when one is damaged, the other receives the same amount.
- Stomp will now place a debuff on all players for 10 seconds increasing physical damage taken by 100%.
- This means the most dangerous time for a tank is right after a stomp from their target’s melee swings.
- Morchok and his twin will also hit harder, have more health, and because of their being less people in Stomp ranges due to having two mobs, Stomp will “hit harder.”
Strategy:
Trash: You will want to clear out a lot of the side trash, including mobs channeling the portals. See pictures below for more details.
Two Groups: Your raid will need to split into two, even groups and deal with their assigned mob. Each group should consist of 1 Tank, 2 Healers, and 2 DPS. Having a DPS class that can soak the double damage close stomp like a rogue (Feint) or pally/warrior (plate) is pretty much mandatory.
Positioning: Once Morchok splits they will jump into two locations. Morchok will jump to X and Kohcrom will jump to Star. Morchok will retain threat, but Kohcrom will start at 0% aggro, therefore the Kohcrom tank needs to pick up threat quick. The tank starting the initial pull should be the Morchok tank throughout the encounter.
Once they split tanks will want to quickly start moving them apart so they do not place crystals in the middle of the road.
Morchok’s Position:
Kohcrom’s Position:
Note: These positions are not absolute and the mobs will need to be moved throughout the fight due to crystals.
Rhythm: This is one of the most important parts of this fight. Everyone must get used to being in range to their mob’s stomp, then after stomp goes off, the boss gets moved to the crystal. The two healers and the non-soaking DPS should move closest in-range of the crystal. So the rhythm is: Stomp->Move towards crystal->Crystal explodes->Stomp->Move to crystal->Crystal explodes->Repeat.
Black Blood of the Earth: This still occurs and is a great time for mana regen CDs, continued DPS, and battle resses. Nothing new about this.
Healing and CDs: These will need to be timed for the tank for the 10 seconds after stomp. Personal CDs should be liberally used by folks on crystal explosions. Have Tank/Heal CD rotations setup in your group before pull.
20%, Furious, and Heroism: Heroism/2nd combat pot should be used at 20% due to the Furious debuff. Tanks will really need large healing and CDs here due to the extra damage from Furious. There will be more raid damage as well, but tanks need to be the main focus. This is a great time for healthstone usage, personals, etc…
Fuck I only have 1 minute before pull and I do not know anything like a scrub, save me Furtim:
General: Morchok splits into two mobs at 90%.
General: Stomp->Move towards crystal->Crystal explodes->Stomp->Move to crystal->Crystal explodes…
Tanks: Move the two mobs apart from each other, your big damage will come from melee after stomp.
Tanks: No swapping needed, Kohcrom starts at 0 aggro, Morchok has what he had.
Heals: Soak crystal on your side, heal tank hard after stomp for 10s.
DPS: If you soak Stomp, stand right under him.
DPS: If you are not a Stomp soaker, soak the crystal by moving on top of it.
