Warlord Zon’ozz – 10 man normal

Introduction: Warlord Zon’ozz is in no way General Vezax, Vezax never cared for table tennis.  This boss ramps up the difficulty a bit, but once you master the ancient art of bouncing a glowing orb back and forth, you will be on your way to victory.

Difficulty: 2/5; This boss can take a few tries to get the hang of and is a good heal/DPS check, but overall does not provide too much of a challenge.

Overview:

Ping-Pong champion is made up of two phases that alternate until he dies.

Ping Pong phase:

In this phase the raid will have to play ping pong with a purple void ball.  He will begin the fight by casting Void of the Unmaking, spawning a swirling void ball.  This void ball will continue to travel in whichever direction it is heading until it collides with a player or hits the wall and wipes the raid.  Begin by having the tank face the boss towards the raid, this will spawn the void between the melee and ranged groups as outlined in the picture.

When the orb collides with a player it will cast Void Diffusion and hit for 180,000 shadow damage split evenly between nearby players and increase damage taken by the next void diffusion by 20% each stack.  This means everyone should be stacked in their respective groups and move as a group to hit the orb.  The orb will then travel in the opposite direction of where it was hit, keep an eye out on the direction as it can shift pretty easily and the group may have to move to get it.  Determine how many bounces your raid can handle and when you want it to hit the boss melee need to move far off to the sides and out of the way.

    • Dispel alert (magic effect): Throughout this phase Zon’ozz will cast on random players, Disrupting Shadows, which will do 36,099 every 2 seconds and when dispelled will deal 60,100 shadow damage and knock the player back.  You will want to dispel this.
    • The tank will continue to take more and more damage during this phase due to Focused Anger stacking on Zon’ozz.  This effect will stack around every 6 seconds.
    • The group hitting the void orb will take more damage each time they hit it.
    • The boss will occasionally cast Psychic Drain.  He will need to be faced away from the raid as this attack is a 30 degree frontal cone that will deal 120,000 shadow damage and heal the boss for 10 times the amount of damage dealt.

Black Blood phase (aka why u no heal moar):

When the ping pong orb hits Zon’ozz it will trigger this phase.  He will jump to the center of the room and everyone should stack towards the center of the room for heals.  Zon’ozz will inflict 14,099 shadow damage every second for 30 seconds.  There will also be several eye stalks that spawn and cast Shadow Gaze at random players dealing 28,000 damage.  The boss will also get a debuff that will increase the damage the raid does on him by 5% for every bounce of the void orb.  Simply stack on the boss and heal and burn until this phase is over.

Tips:
  • In most cases Zon’ozz will cast Void of the Unmaking before Psychic drain, but not all the time.  Care should be taken to make sure he is positioned towards the raid only when he is about to cast Void of the Unmaking and immediately moved back away from the raid after.  Personally I have always seen him start with Void of the Unmaking, but I have heard reports of him potentially casting Psychic Drain at the start of the fight before Void, if this is the case you will want to turn him just slightly away from the ranged group so they would not get hit, but that the boss is still facing the raid.
  • The raid will need to find their balance of how many bounces they can take.  In our group we did 5 bounces on the first and 3 every subsequent bounce.
  • Heroism should be used during the black phase along with DPS cooldowns.
  • Make sure the person being dispelled is topped off before dispelling Disrupting Shadows.
  • Rogues should make liberal use of feint in the black blood phase.
  • Once bounced the orb will become un-bounceable for a few seconds.  This is indicated by the orb losing its purple swish effect.  Keep this in mind when setting up your distances.
  • If the orb somehow gets missed and heads towards a wall, a mage can blink and ice block the hit to survive and a rogue could sprint and cloak of shadows.
Fuck I only have 1 minute before pull and I do not know anything like a scrub, save me Furtim:
  • DPS: Stand in designated spot and DPS boss.  When the ping-pong ball needs to collide with boss move way the hell out of the way.
  • Tanks: Face boss towards raid right when Zon’ozz is going to cast Void of the Unmaking, otherwise face him away from the raid for Psychic Drain.  The longer you are in ping-pong phase the more damage you will take, use CDs wisely.
  • Heals: Stand in designated spot, dispel disrupting shadows on topped off players, tank takes more damage the longer your raid is in ping-pong phase, and in black phase massive AoE heals are needed.
  • Everyone: Stack up on the boss in black blood phase.
  • Everyone: Ping-Pong ball needs to be hit by your group, not by yourself.
  • Cast heroism in black blood phase.
