Morchok – 10 man normal

Introduction: Morchok is a fun loving elemental who is really digging his light-brite Novembeard.  He is preceded by some trash packs and will greet your raid before you can break into the base of Wyrmrest Temple, beginning the assault on Deathwing.  Don’t worry he will not ask you to break yourself off on his body, that is only his kinky cousin.

Difficulty: 1/5; this boss has few mechanics and can easily be one shot.

Overview:

This simple encounter is made up of two primary phases with a short burn at the end.

  • Crystal Phase – This is the “normal” DPS phase and lasts around one minute.  Morchok will occasionally place a Resonating Crystal on the ground that will explode after 12 seconds.  The crystal will put a link (think Yogg brain link) on three random players.  These players need to go to and stay by the crystal to take substantially less damage than if they were farther away from it.  Tanks will want to swap off each other as needed as their stacks of Crush Armor accumulate.  Stomp will split 750,000 damage to all players within 25 yards of the boss with the two closest targets taking double the share of damage.  He will cast this every 10-15 seconds.
  • Black Blood Phase – Lasting about 30 seconds this phase begins by Morchok gripping all players to him and stunning them while placing earth shards on the ground.  He will then immediately begin casting Black Blood of the Earth which will put a black tar on the ground that expands outward from him dealing increased damage the more a player is exposed to it.  The way to avoid this is to simply run behind one of the earth crystals and line of sight the blood.  Keep in mind the blood can encroach past a crystal sometimes so make sure you are safe.
  • Burn phase: Once you have put Morchok down to 20% of his total HP he will gain a Furious buff increasing his attack speed by 30% and damage done by 20%.  This is a good time for tank/healer CDs if needed and when you should cast heroism
Tips:
  • Having a rogue be the second person closest to a stomp with a tank can be a good idea.  The rogue can time a Feint cast and take substantially less damage.  Even if you do not use this, all your rogues should be feinting stomp.
  • Healers should time their Hymns and Divine Pleas in the black blood phase as there should be little to no damage going out.
  • Heroism should be used at 20%
  • Ranged can continue to DPS Morchok during black blood phase if they can position themselves by two adjoining pillars, or by finding a safe spot not directly behind a pillar.
  • Once Morchok stops casting Black Blood the effect lingers but will not hurt you (i.e. run back in).
  • Resonating crystal damage is shadow, if damage is a problem comp towards priests, warlocks, and a paladin using resist aura.
  • If you have a stomp and resonating crystal explosion timed the same it can be tough on those three who have been linked by the crystal.  Make sure they are topped off and have a CD if needed.
Fuck I only have 1 minute before pull and I do not know anything like a scrub, save me Furtim:
  • DPS: Kill boss, if you have a link on you run towards the big crystal.
  • Tanks: Swap regularly to drop the stacking Crush Armor debuff.
  • Heals: AoE heals needed after stomp, regen your mana during black blood phase, those linked with the crystal will need heals after it explodes, bigger ones if timed the same with a stomp.
  • Everyone: Run behind a spike on the ground when he grips everyone in and starts putting black shit on the ground.  Keep in mind that sometimes you might need to move farther back from directly behind a crystal.
  • Everyone: If you get linked with a crystal run towards it until your link turns blue.
